Who could ever forget those infamous words: “We’re going to win the game, I guarantee it!”
With those words,
Broadway Joe Namath set into motion one of the great upsets in the
history of professional sports.
The game was officially called the “Third World Championship Game”. Namath,
calling all his own plays, moved his Jets up and down the field against
the feared defense of the heavily favored Baltimore Colts, chewing up the clock
and positioning his team to score time and again.
Early in the second quarter Namath is about to hand the ball to Matt Snell, who
ran for 121 yards on the day. Snell will break outside to his left and beat the
Colt defenders into the end zone, capping an 80 yard scoring drive. It was all
over from there for the Colts as the Jets cruised to a memorable victory!
